HILARY MACKELDEN is a British playwright with more than 30 full length stage scripts to her name. Born in Coventry, she has lived all her adult life in Crowborough, Sussex.

Hilary wrote her first script in 2002 when asked to provide a new version of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” for a community group at All Saints Church in Crowborough.

Her first published play was “If We Had Only Known”, which was bought by Eldridge Publishing in 2004. In that year she also won the Sussex Playwright’s National Open Playwriting Award for “Sammy”, the story of a couple struggling to cope with a child with Prader Willi Syndrome.

In 2007, her play, ”The Price of Firewood” was entered for the Verity Bargate Award. Nina Steiger, Head of New Writing at the Soho Theatre, called the play, “well structured, politically engaging and quietly effective.”

In 2011, her play, “Beyond Redemption” was performed at the American Embassy in Zagreb.

Hilary has now written thirty four stage plays, including family friendly pantomimes, comedies, community plays, small cast dramas, and Christian plays.

Other works include sketches and skits, and eight screenplays so far.

She writes a weekly column for the Kent and Sussex Courier.

She is about to publish her first novel, writing as Caitlyn Callery.
